Azerbaijan will present its innovative post-conflict urban development approach at the 13th World Urban Forum, reflecting the country’s focus on reconstruction and city planning, Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov said.
Writing on his X page, Mammadov noted that Azerbaijan’s approach to post-conflict reconstruction is reflected in President Ilham Aliyev’s decision to declare 2026 the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture,” Caliber.Az reports.
He emphasised that the restoration of cities is carried out according to international standards, sustainable development principles, and with respect for the rights of affected communities.
“As Azerbaijan restores urban life in the liberated territories, this experience increasingly informs our engagement with global partners. In this context, Baku’s hosting of the World Urban Forum 13 in May 2026 will provide a UN platform to exchange practical lessons on resilient, inclusive urban development in post-conflict settings,” Mammadov stated.
