US embassies in several Middle Eastern countries have issued new warnings urging American citizens to exercise heightened vigilance amid the tense situation in the region.
Diplomatic missions in Jordan, Israel, Iraq, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon said the security situation remains complex and could quickly escalate in an unforeseen manner. The notices said the Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi movement, Ansar Allah, has been carrying out strikes against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports, creating a risk of the conflict expanding.
Americans in the region were advised to be prepared for possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and disruptions to transportation services. Diplomats also stressed that US facilities outside the Middle East have repeatedly been targeted in attacks, while American companies and institutions could also face attacks anywhere in the world.
The embassies reiterated the need for heightened caution, noting that they have been warning about the region’s persistent instability for many years.
