The negotiation process between the United States and Iran has reached a deadlock in recent months, with the situation further aggravated by the crisis surrounding the Houthis, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with NTV.
“The negotiations between the United States and Iran have been at a standstill for the past few months. As a result of this situation, we are seeing not only their attacks on each other, but also the issue of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait on the Yemeni side. We see that the parties are taking part in an operation to expand the crisis toward Saudi Arabia. The situation is becoming increasingly complicated,” he added.
Fidan emphasised that Türkiye and other countries have been putting forward initiatives and “doing everything possible to ensure that negotiations between the United States and Iran are concluded.”
“But there is a great deal of distrust between the parties. They had previously reached an understanding in Pakistan. But then problems arose with implementing those agreements. And now both sides have openly begun conducting this process in a way that serves their own interests,” the minister said.
He also stressed that “new conditions are being proposed to the parties to the conflict” as a means of reaching a compromise. “I hope they will accept them. Otherwise, the current crisis, which was tolerable to a certain extent for the countries affected by it, has already begun to have economic consequences for some states that go far beyond what is acceptable. We see this in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and Africa,” the FM noted.
