Azerbaijan’s oil industry has played an important role in the country’s economic development, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov wrote on X, stressing the importance of preserving its rich legacy and expanding the country’s energy potential.


“The professionalism and dedication of our oil workers are essential to preserving this rich heritage and further strengthening our country’s energy capabilities,” he emphasized.


Jabbarov also congratulated Azerbaijan’s oil workers on their professional holiday.


“We congratulate all oil workers on their professional holiday and wish them good health and continued success,” the minister said.


Thirty-two years ago, on September 20, 1994, Azerbaijan signed the “Contract of the Century,” a landmark deal that helped shape the country’s future and turn it into a leading player on the global energy map.


Under an order signed by National Leader Heydar Aliyev on August 16, 2001, September 20, the date the contract was signed, has been observed in Azerbaijan as Oil Workers’ Day.
