A powerful explosion was reported early Saturday, September 19, in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, Xinhua news agency reports.


“Explosions were heard in the Saudi capital Riyadh early Saturday morning. Local residents received air-raid alerts through mobile applications,” the agency said in a statement.


According to Xinhua, warning systems were activated in the capital region shortly before the incident. No information was immediately available on the consequences of the explosion or possible casualties.


Iranian news agency IRNA reported that the incident may have been caused by a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi movement.
