A Russian drone strike damaged a railway station in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region before dawn, while railway infrastructure in Kyiv was also hit, Ukraine’s state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia said.
The drone caused serious damage to the building of Berezhyn train station, prompting passengers and railway staff to take shelter. Specialists are inspecting the site, while train services to Berestyn remain operational, ASTRA reports.
In Kyiv, railway infrastructure at the Nikolskaya Slobodka circular commuter station was also damaged. As a result, the Kyiv City Express is temporarily operating on a shortened route, bypassing the Darnitsa-Pochayna section. Ukrzaliznytsia said it expects the service to be restored during the day.
The attack also damaged the windows and doors of an electric train, as well as facilities at a railway depot and other infrastructure.
Several trains are experiencing delays because of the damage. Trains No. 7/8 running between Odesa and Kharkiv and No. 53/54 between Dnipro and Odesa have been rerouted, increasing their journey times by about six hours, according to Ukrzaliznytsia.
