An expedition to Mount Everest costs around $60,000, Rajendra Lama, secretary-general of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, told RIA Novosti.
“A professionally organised expedition to Everest for a foreign climber can cost approximately $45,000–$70,000 or more, while premium or private expeditions can be significantly more expensive. As of 2026, the average cost of an expedition is estimated at around $60,000,” the agency’s source explained.
The amount includes the mandatory climbing permit, which was increased to $15,000 for the spring season this year.
However, the permit fee does not cover the full cost of the expedition. The total expense also includes guide services, insurance, equipment and logistics.
The cost of climbing other trekking peaks ranging from 5,000 to 7,000 meters is considerably lower and depends on the route and package of services.
Mount Everest is the world’s highest mountain, reaching 8,848 meters above sea level. Reaching its summit is considered one of the most prestigious achievements in mountaineering.
