Over 10,000 French police officers took part in a major demonstration in Paris on September 15, demanding higher salaries and an increase in allowances for dangerous working conditions.
The Alliance Police Nationale trade union said more than 10,000 officers joined the protest, highlighting growing dissatisfaction within the police force, BFMTV reports.
Fabien Vanhemelryck, Secretary General of the Alliance Police Nationale, said the demonstration was intended to show that police officers are “furious,” stressing that their anger is continuing to grow and that the government must take notice.
One of the union’s main demands is an increase in the allowance for dangerous working conditions, which has not been indexed since 2019, despite what the union describes as increasingly hazardous conditions faced by police officers.
The demonstrators also voiced concerns over insufficient funding for the police. Vanhemelryck said he hoped the interior minister would convey their demands to Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu and press the government to take action.
