BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. Kazakhstan and
South Korea have agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level
of a comprehensive strategic partnership focused on the future,
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said during expanded meeting
with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung in Seoul.
This was announced in a statement by the press service of the
Kazakh President
“Last year, we held our first telephone conversation, during
which we agreed to continue developing a strategic partnership
based on mutual trust and friendship. Today, we have reached an
agreement to elevate bilateral relations to the level of a
comprehensive strategic partnership oriented toward the future,”
the press service reported, citing Tokayev.
The Kazakh president noted the positive dynamics of bilateral
cooperation and highlighted the prospects for expanding trade and
economic ties.
“Good results are being demonstrated in all areas of our
relations. To date, Korea has invested more than $12 billion in
Kazakhstan's economy. World-renowned Korean companies are
successfully operating in the Kazakh market. We are creating all
the conditions for them and will continue to do so in the future,”
Tokayev said.
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and South Korea were
established on January 28, 1992. The Embassy of South Korea in
Kazakhstan was opened in 1993, while Kazakhstan's Embassy in South
Korea was opened in 1996. In August 2021, the two countries signed
a Joint Statement on Expanded Strategic Partnership.
Bilateral trade turnover exceeded $3 billion last year.
Kazakhstan and South Korea have set a goal of doubling bilateral
trade turnover through further development of economic
cooperation.
