BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. Uzbekistan’s
Fergana region and South Korea’s Nonsan are exploring cooperation
in advanced agricultural technologies, food processing and
innovation, with the sides considering a new center for planting
materials and intensive farming in Fergana.
This was reflected in the statement by the Fergana regional
administration, following a meeting between Fergana Region Governor
Khayrullo Bozorov and Nonsan Mayor Baek Seong-hyeon. The sides
discussed strengthening economic ties between the two regions and
turning their respective experience and capabilities into concrete
joint projects.
Bozorov highlighted the growing partnership between Uzbekistan
and South Korea, saying President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s ongoing
state visit to South Korea is expected to give further momentum to
bilateral relations and raise cooperation to a new level.
Nonsan is known for integrating agriculture with modern
technologies, with strawberry production playing a particularly
important role in the city’s agricultural economy. Its approach
extends beyond cultivation to include agrotechnology, processing,
value-added production and the marketing of finished products.
The city will host the Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo in
2027, an event that the sides said could provide additional
opportunities for cooperation with Fergana.
The sides discussed combining Fergana’s agricultural potential
with Nonsan’s agrotechnological expertise, including the
development of deeper processing of fruits and vegetables and the
introduction of modern greenhouse and intensive farming
technologies.
One proposal calls for establishing a modern center in Fergana
for the production of planting materials and intensive agriculture
based on Nonsan’s experience in strawberry cultivation.
The sides also discussed short-term training for young Fergana
specialists in Nonsan, exchanges of experts and cooperation between
universities and research institutions.
Bozorov presented Fergana’s investment opportunities and ongoing
industrial and agricultural projects. The sides agreed to
strengthen business contacts, organize reciprocal visits and
develop a roadmap for joint projects.
