Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan has joined Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in condemning the burning of the Turkish flag during a torchlight procession in Yerevan.

The incident took place during a march marking the anniversary of the so-called “Armenian genocide”, when participants set fire to a Turkish flag.

Simonyan described the act as “senseless, shameful and strongly condemnable”, saying it casts a shadow over the meaning of April 24, a day of remembrance, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.

“This day is dedicated to remembrance, unity and life, whereas such actions are petty and unacceptable provocations aimed against peace and the future,” Simonyan was quoted as saying.
