On 28 February, Israel and the United States carried out a series of strikes on the territory of Iran. Major cities and military infrastructure were targeted, including military bases and command centres.
In response, Iran launched missile strikes against Israeli territory, as well as against several other countries in the region — including facilities and airspace in the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Iraq and Syria.
Iranian state media reported that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in the strikes. According to official statements from Tehran, the attack occurred while he was at his working residence.
As of 2 March, the situation in the region remains extremely tense. The sides continue to exchange statements, and new episodes of escalation are being recorded. Information is being updated as reports come in.

Ali Larijani accused Donald Trump of “sacrificing American soldiers for Israel’s interests.”
According to Caliber.Az, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council sharply criticised the US president.
He stated that Trump, driven by what he described as “illusory ambitions,” had “plunged the region into chaos” and was now expressing concern over possible additional casualties among American troops.
Larijani claimed that through his “misguided behaviour,” Trump had turned the slogan “America First” into “Israel First” and had “sacrificed American soldiers for Israel’s pursuit of power.” He also accused him of spreading “new false statements” which, in his view, once again shift the consequences of policy decisions onto American service members and their families.
“Today, the people of Iran are defending themselves. The Armed Forces of Iran did not initiate aggression,” Larijani stressed.
