A driver working for a cleaning company was seriously injured after crashing a company vehicle into a plane engine at Munich Airport early Saturday, September 19, police said.
The vehicle then struck an unoccupied passenger staircase, a police spokeswoman said. The driver was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter.
The accident occurred at around 3 a.m. local time (0100 GMT). The aircraft was parked away from the airport’s main area and had no one on board when the crash occurred.
Initial findings indicated that the driver may have suffered a medical problem before the accident, according to the police spokeswoman.
An accident analysis is expected to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Police said there was no danger to other people at any point and that the incident had no impact on flight operations.
Munich Airport prohibits scheduled night flights between midnight and 5 a.m.
