A high-ranking field commander of Yemen’s Houthi movement, Abu Saqr, was reportedly killed along with six fighters accompanying him on the Kahboub front near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Iran International reported the development, citing Arab media and field sources.
According to the sources, heavy clashes in the area of the Kahboub mountain range spread to the neighbouring Al-Waziya district. Dozens of Houthi fighters were reportedly killed or wounded during the fighting.
The sources said Abu Saqr’s death dealt a blow to the Houthis’ command structure in an area controlling approaches to the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
The exact number of casualties on both sides has not been reported.
