The average price of diesel fuel in the United States has reached a new record of $6.49 per gallon (3.79 liters), according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).


AAA data shows that a gallon of diesel cost consumers $3.70 a year ago, while the average price has now climbed to $6.49. A week earlier, the average stood at $6.17.


Earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that the head of major US oil company Chevron had warned of a global fuel crisis amid the conflict in the Middle East.
