Turkish authorities have detained 178 suspects linked to 12 “new generation” organised crime groups in simultaneous operations across 20 provinces, the Istanbul Police Department said, according to TRT Haber.
The operation was carried out on September 14 under the coordination of the Istanbul, Bakırköy, Gaziosmanpaşa and Istanbul Anatolian chief public prosecutor’s offices.
According to investigators, the groups operated at both national and international levels, with some allegedly being led by individuals based abroad.
The suspects are accused of offences including making threats, damaging property, endangering public safety and illegal firearms trafficking.
During searches, police seized one automatic pistol, four unregistered pistols, two shotguns, 207 rounds of ammunition, about 122 grams of drugs and a large amount of cash.
After completing police procedures, all 178 suspects were referred to judicial authorities.
