Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said a Russian attack drone crashed or was shot down in Ukraine’s Volyn region on September 17, approximately four kilometres from the Polish border.
The incident occurred near the Dorohusk border crossing, Tusk said, adding that a powerful explosion was reported in the area and that Polish military aircraft were scrambled in response, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.
“I received another report: the Russian attack on western Ukraine has ended. Very close to the Polish border, not far from Dorohusk, a gas station was likely attacked again. There was a very powerful explosion. Our aircraft took to the air,” Tusk said.
He also described September 17 as a significant date in the context of Poland’s security situation.
Lieutenant Colonel Jacek Goriszewski, a spokesperson for Poland’s Armed Forces Operational Command, said the drone most likely crashed or was shot down about four kilometres from the Polish-Ukrainian border.
