Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has questioned the integrity of the Armenian authorities over Yerevan’s wavering between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union (EU).
“This is basic integrity — either you have it or you don’t,” she said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Zakharova compared the current behaviour of the Armenian authorities to a troubled marriage in which the couple continue to live together.
“And the answer has been given not once, not twice, not one and a half times. They say, ‘We’ll decide later.’ When is later? When, excuse me, they start taking the furniture out? So when? This is basic integrity. Well, if we are talking about integrity, that’s what it is. Either you have it, or you don’t,” she added.
As for statements by the Armenian leadership that its course towards the EU has not yet been finalised, Zakharova made clear that they were contradicted by the law “On the Beginning of the Process of Accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union”, adopted in April last year.
