Omani authorities have evacuated 23 crew members from the Panama-flagged ELGAIA tanker, which was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, the Sultanate’s Maritime Security Centre has stated.

According to the statement, those evacuated received “the necessary medical assistance,” Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The search is also continuing for “two crew members who are reported missing”.

The incident occurred 32 nautical miles north-east of Musandam Governorate, where the tanker was previously attacked, causing a fire in the engine room.

Omani authorities towed the vessel to port after extinguishing the fire.
