North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to continue providing “unwavering support” to Russia, saying he is confident in Moscow’s victory in what he described as a “sacred war” to defend its security interests and international justice.
Kim pledged a reply telegram to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russian media reports via North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
“I firmly believe in the victory of the Russian Federation in today’s sacred war to defend the country’s security interests and international justice. And I promise to unwaveringly support you and the brotherly Russian people,” Kim wrote.
Kim also thanked Putin for his message marking the 78th anniversary of North Korea’s founding and said bilateral relations were rooted in “traditions of friendship, good-neighbourliness and mutual assistance and strong allied ties.”
Putin congratulated Kim on September 9, saying relations between Moscow and Pyongyang had consistently been based on friendship, good-neighbourliness and mutual assistance. He also expressed Moscow’s readiness to continue efforts to strengthen the countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.
Russia and North Korea signed a Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in June 2024, further formalising their increasingly close ties.
