The Western Azerbaijan Community (WAC) has accused Armenia of undermining efforts to establish peace and normalise relations with Azerbaijan.
In a statement, the community criticised Armenia’s reaction to a recent visit by diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan to Karabakh and East Zangezur, describing it as disrespect for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Caliber.Az reports.
It said such actions were particularly damaging at a time when the two countries were close to peace, arguing that they could undermine mutual trust and encourage revanchist forces.
The WAC also described Armenia’s position as an attempt to interfere in Azerbaijan’s internal affairs and to reignite irredentism.
It said Armenian society should, instead of making what it called unfounded claims about Azerbaijan’s sovereign territories and history, address the denial and distortion of what it described as the Azerbaijani people’s cultural and historical heritage in Armenia.
According to the community, doing so would represent a practical step towards lasting peace between the two countries and their societies.
