US President Donald Trump has warned that China must not overtake the United States in the artificial intelligence (AI) race, arguing that Washington currently holds the lead and will maintain it.
In a post on Truth Social, he said: “Whoever wins AI, wins! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so.”
He also claimed that a “sick conspiracy” was taking place against AI and data centres, noting that “the only one that is happy about it is China”.
Trump argued that additional controls or “guardrails” for AI were unnecessary, stressing that the United States already had sufficient powers to regulate the sector.
“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a strong and smart (high IQ!) president, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” he wrote.
Trump made clear that his administration had prevented AI developers from engaging in harmful activities.
“The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ — and we will continue to do so!” he clarified, referring to Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei.
“We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” Trump added.
He concluded by warning those he described as “conspiracy theorists, treasonists, traitors, and leakers”.
