Azerbaijan has hosted its 2026 Aerospace Modelling Festival at Fuzuli International Airport, bringing together young people to showcase aerospace models, innovative projects and technology solutions.
The festival was organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in cooperation with the Innovation Centre of the State Agency for Public Services and Social Innovations (ASAN), the National Aviation Academy and the Support for the Development of New Technologies Public Association, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eldar Seyidov, deputy special representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavand districts; Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaibov; Innovation Centre Director Vusal Rustamov; and Alper Gezeravcı, Türkiye’s first astronaut.
Held as part of events marking the 32nd anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, the festival was held for the fourth consecutive year.
The competition took place in two stages across 12 categories, including parachute and rocket-plane modelling, streamer models, CubeSat satellite modelling, aerospace startups, FPV drones and model aircraft.
The programme also included the technical sports categories of wireless communications and spatial orientation, which were introduced for the first time this year. Intellectual competitions and demonstration flights by model helicopters and airplanes were also held as part of an air-show programme.
