Around 130 passengers and crew members are missing after a ferry sank in the Java Sea, according to Indonesian rescuers.
At least 107 people have been rescued, while the bodies of six others have been found in the water, Caliber.Az reports per the Associated Press (AP).
Officially, 243 people were on board, including 213 passengers and 30 crew members. Authorities noted, however, that the actual number of passengers on Indonesian ferries often differs from the figures recorded on passenger lists.
Rescue vessels, including a military ship, as well as a helicopter have been deployed to the scene. The search and rescue operation is ongoing.
According to the outlet, shortly before sending a distress signal, the captain reported waves reaching up to 3 meters in height and warned that the vessel had begun to list. Authorities later received information that the ferry had capsized and sunk.
