The construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway corridor could be completed two years ahead of its original schedule, potentially opening between 2028 and 2029 instead of 2030, Jasurbek Choriyev, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Transport, has stated.
Speaking at a panel session at the Tashkent International Investment Forum, he said Chinese technologies and specialised equipment adapted for high-altitude terrain are being used to implement the project in Kyrgyzstan’s challenging mountainous conditions, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Cargo traffic on the new line is expected to reach around 15 million tons per year by 2032 and increase to 20 million tons by 2040.
The project includes the construction of 50 bridges and 29 tunnels with a total length of approximately 120 kilometres.
Official construction began on December 27, 2024, during a ceremony attended by the leaders of the three countries.
