Türkiye has intensified efforts to restore the grain corridor based on the Istanbul agreements reached in July 2022, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said.
Speaking to journalists at the Turkish House (Turkevi Center) in New York after concluding his engagements at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, he noted that security in the Black Sea is very important both for Türkiye and for the region, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
“The Black Sea is not a front in this war and must never become one. In our talks with the parties, we explain in detail the need to restore the safety of navigation. This will have two benefits: ensuring food security and preventing the war from spreading,” he stressed.
Erdoğan stated that Türkiye do not accept attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea, whoever carries them out, and that they expect the parties to act responsibly.
“We have now increased our efforts to re-establish the grain corridor. To this end, we are also accelerating our diplomatic steps. I discussed the issue once again with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, and the response I received from him was also positive,” he added.
