US President Donald Trump is open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Fox News journalist Trey Yingst has reported.
Yingst said he asked Trump whether he would be willing to meet Pezeshkian during the UN General Assembly’s high-level week, where both leaders are expected to be present.
“He said he would probably be open to it,” Yingst quoted Trump as saying.
Yingst also reported that Trump is expected to make a decision on Iran in the near future. According to the journalist, he recently spoke with the US president about the situation involving the Islamic Republic and was told that Trump is currently considering his options.
“Very big things are going to be happening in the not so distant,” Yingst said, citing Trump's assessment of the situation.
According to Yingst, Trump outlined three possible courses of action regarding Iran: destroying the Islamic Republic, allowing it to “rot economically”, or reaching a deal with Tehran.
Separately, Yingst reported that Trump said the Houthi movement, officially known as Ansar Allah, had agreed not to fight the United States.
“The president said that the United States is in constant communication with the Houthis, and they have agreed not to fight the US,” Yingst said.
The reported comments come ahead of the UN General Assembly’s high-level week in New York, where the Iranian and US presidents are expected to attend.
