France is a “sick country of Europe” and one of the few countries on the verge of recession, Sophie Binet, secretary-general of France’s largest trade union, the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), said in an interview with Radio France.

“Of course, there is an international context, but France is a sick country of Europe: we are one of the few countries on the verge of recession,” she emphasised.

According to Binet, the situation is the result of French President Emmanuel Macron’s economic policy, which has focused on supporting businesses and the supply side. She noted that the French leader has pursued this course for the past 10 years.
