A post dedicated to State Sovereignty Day, observed in Azerbaijan on September 20, has been published on the official social media accounts of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The post marks the national day commemorating Azerbaijan’s restoration of full state sovereignty.
Caliber.Az presents the publication:
State Sovereignty Day is observed in Azerbaijan on September 20. The date commemorates the restoration of Azerbaijan’s full sovereignty over its territory following the local anti-terror operation in Karabakh in September 2023.
On September 19–20, 2023, Azerbaijan conducted a military operation in the Karabakh region, after which the Armenian armed formations operating there agreed to lay down their arms and disband. The developments marked the end of the separatist entity’s existence in the region and restored Baku’s control over the country’s internationally recognised territory.
In 2024, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree establishing September 20 as State Sovereignty Day, making it an official commemorative date in the country’s calendar.
