Arrindell Rhoda Rebecca, a lecturer with a PhD at Howard University in the United States, has expressed support for the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands.
Rebecca said displaced people should have the right to return to their places of origin whenever they choose and under conditions that are favourable to them, Caliber.Az writes, citing social media posts by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).
“We believe in the right of displaced people to be repatriated, to return whenever they so choose and under the conditions that are favourable to them. We also acknowledge the right of the Western Azerbaijani people to return to their homeland,” she said.
Rebecca added that developments affecting displaced Western Azerbaijanis should be viewed in the broader context of displacement around the world. She said such issues represented threats not only to Western Azerbaijanis but also to displaced communities elsewhere.
“And we, as a group, St. American Association, we pledge our support; we pledge to work with our brothers and sisters around the world, to do our part, to ensure that these people return to their homeland,” she said.
Rebecca also expressed appreciation for the opportunity to participate in the Baku Initiative Conference, saying it provided a platform to raise concerns about developments in different countries and express support for displaced communities, including Western Azerbaijanis.
“We are grateful for the opportunity also to be here at the Baku Initiative Conference, where we can express our concerns about what’s happening in our countries and also commend our support for our brothers and sisters around the world, especially the Western Azerbaijanis,” she said.
