The victory achieved by Azerbaijan in the Karabakh conflict represents a victory for the Islamic world, Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB) Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazada said.
Speaking at an event marking an international scientific-practical conference dedicated to Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi at the Aghdam Friday Mosque, Pashazada highlighted the historical and religious significance of the mosque, which he described as a “martyr mosque,” Caliber.Az reports per domestic media.
He recalled attending the funerals of many Azerbaijani soldiers killed during the First Karabakh War, saying the mosque had witnessed profound suffering among local families.
“The walls of the Aghdam Friday Mosque carry the cries of many mothers. Sometimes we could not show the bodies of martyrs to their mothers and families. Those were very difficult times,” Pashazada said.
He also recalled the destruction and desecration of the Aghdam Friday Mosque and other religious sites in Karabakh during the First Karabakh War and the subsequent Armenian occupation.
Pashazada said Muslims who considered Azerbaijanis brothers and friends had failed to respond to the suffering of the population at the time.
“Those who called us brothers and friends did not respond to the cries of mothers; they did not hear our voices. I deeply regret this,” he said.
The CMB chairman noted that Karabakh is now undergoing reconstruction, with religious sites being restored and new mosques being built.
Pashazada also recalled a recent meeting with the head of state, during which he proposed holding a continuation of the conference dedicated to Sheikh Sayyid Yahya Bakuvi Shirvani at the Aghdam Friday Mosque. He said the proposal had also impressed the president.
“I believe that the victory of the Commander-in-Chief, Azerbaijan's victory, is the victory of the Islamic world,” Pashazada concluded.
