BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. Türkiye will
benefit from Azerbaijan's COP29 experience at COP31, Chairman of
the Environment Committee of the Grand National Assembly of
Türkiye, Mehmet Galip Ensarioğlu, told Trend in an interview on the sidelines of the
2026 Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW 2026).


According to him, Azerbaijan hosted COP29 very successfully, and
important concrete steps were taken on the climate agenda after the
event.


He called for fundamental changes in climate policy against the
backdrop of global processes.


"We participated in COP29 and witnessed the very successful
organization of the event held in Azerbaijan. After COP29 held in
Azerbaijan, very concrete steps were taken regarding the climate
agenda. In particular, an important decision was made regarding
climate financing, which had been discussed for a long time. COP29
was also excellent in terms of organization," Ensarioğlu
emphasized.


He noted that Türkiye, when hosting COP31, will take as an
example the successful organizational experience demonstrated by
Azerbaijan at COP29.


"Hopefully, Türkiye will host an important COP with perfect
organization like Azerbaijan, where concrete steps will be taken.
Our cooperation in this area will also continue," he said.


Ensarioğlu also noted the importance of climate solidarity
between countries in the preparation process for COP31.


"In this regard, climate solidarity among countries is necessary
during the preparation period for COP31. Türkiye's experience in
recent years can be considered one of the examples in this context.
A number of decisions have been made in our country within the
framework of international climate policy in the last 10 years. The
adoption of the first climate law in Türkiye in 2025 can be
particularly emphasized," the chairman of the TBMM committee
said.


According to him, it is important to strengthen international
cooperation on climate issues, including interparliamentary
cooperation.







"There is a need to strengthen international cooperation on this
issue, as well as to further develop cooperation on climate issues
at the parliamentary level," Ensarioğlu emphasized.


He said that Türkiye's hosting of COP31 would create an
important opportunity in terms of developing international
cooperation on climate issues.


"We believe that COP31 will be an important platform for further
strengthening international cooperation on climate issues," he
added.


The third day of the Baku Climate Action Week 2026 (BCAW 2026)
is underway.


The program of the third day will focus on issues such as the
transition from climate commitments to concrete action, climate
financing, youth participation in climate processes, artificial
intelligence and climate technologies, energy efficiency, methane
emissions reduction, water resources management, and cultural
heritage protection.


Representatives of governments and international organizations,
experts, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil
society from various countries are attending the events.


Now in its third year, Baku Climate Action Week is being held in
parallel with the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC) Climate Week for the first time this year. The Fourth
Climate Week and Baku Climate Action Week will feature a series of
sessions, panel discussions and other events on climate change,
climate finance, sustainable development and accelerating climate
action.


BCAW 2026 will continue until September 11.
