Georgia will not resume participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) until the credentials of its delegation are fully recognized without any restrictions, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament's Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze has said.
Samkharadze criticized a recent PACE resolution, arguing that it fails to accurately reflect developments in Georgia over the past year, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
“The resolution does not reflect the events that have taken place in Georgia over the last 12 months. The authors of the resolution and those who voted for it have no desire to cooperate or engage in dialogue with the Georgian authorities. Their visit to Tbilisi was merely a formality,” he said.
Samkharadze reiterated that Tbilisi would not return to the assembly's work until the mandates of the Georgian delegation are recognized in full and without conditions.
The dispute dates back to January 29, 2025, when PACE ratified the credentials of Georgia's delegation while imposing a number of restrictions. In response, the ruling Georgian Dream party announced the suspension of its participation in the assembly's activities.
