Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan have discussed expanding transport and logistics cooperation, including increasing the transit of Kazakh energy resources through Azerbaijan, as part of a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Alim Bayel.
The meeting also covered plans to build a joint intermodal terminal at the Port of Alat, supply Azerbaijani operators with Kazakh locomotives and railcars, construct vessels for Kazakhstan at the Baku Shipyard, and further develop the joint Baku Grain Terminal at the Port of Hovsan, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Kazakh government’s official website.
The two sides also exchanged views on boosting the transit of Kazakh energy resources via Azerbaijan and expanding cooperation in trade, investment and economic affairs.
Particular focus was placed on advancing joint projects and strengthening economic and industrial ties through the joint investment fund established in 2024.
The sides said the creation of joint production facilities could contribute to higher trade turnover between the two countries.
Bayel noted the strong momentum in bilateral relations and expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for supporting Kazakhstan’s initiative to raise the status of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.
Sharifov, for his part, clarified that he would make every effort to further deepen trade and economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.
Since 2026, the commission has been co-chaired by Kazakhstan’s First Deputy Prime Minister Nurlibek Nalybayev and Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov.
