The TON blockchain community has completed a vote to rebrand its native token, with 81.2% of participants supporting a change from Toncoin (TON) to Gram (GRAM).
The changes will take effect on June 15, Caliber.Az reports, citing the project’s official channel.
It said the token’s name, ticker, and logo will be updated, while the underlying blockchain will retain the name The Open Network (TON).
Exchanges and ecosystem projects will synchronously switch to the new ticker, with the full transition expected by June 22.
No action will be required from token holders—balances, addresses, smart contracts, NFTs, staking positions, and DeFi holdings will remain unchanged.
The community has also warned that any offers to “exchange” TON for GRAM are scams.
The idea to restore the Gram name is attributed to Telegram founder Pavel Durov.
On June 1, he described it as a “return to the origins,” noting that Gram was the original name of the token in the initial Telegram Open Network project.
In 2018, the TON ICO raised around $1.7 billion, but the launch was blocked by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
