US President Donald Trump said Washington is preparing to intensify strikes on Iran, following the breakdown of diplomatic efforts aimed at securing a nuclear agreement.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said the United States had come close to reaching a deal but accused Tehran of delaying progress, The Guardian reports.
“So we’ll see what happens. But we hit them hard yesterday and we’re going to hit them again hard today,” he said.
“In case you missed it, in case you don’t turn on your television set and… we’ll see what happens with the deal.”
“We were really close to a deal. But they keep tapping us along. They keep playing us for suckers,” Trump added.
He said negotiations with Iran had been ongoing for months and insisted Tehran should accept the proposed agreement.
“I’ve been working with Iran for a number of months, and they should sign that deal. It’s a good deal,” he said.
“It doesn’t give them the right to have a nuclear weapon. In fact, it totally prohibits them from ever having a nuclear weapon.”
