The official Iranian news agency ISNA confirms that negotiations between delegations from Iran and the United States have begun in Islamabad.
“In light of intensive consultations in Islamabad, progress in the negotiations, and the limitation of attacks by the Israeli regime from Beirut on southern areas of Lebanon — which is considered a step forward in implementing the ceasefire — as well as the American side’s agreement to unblock Iranian assets and the need for more detailed expert and technical talks on this issue, it has been decided to begin negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad for the final resolution of these matters.
Iran believes that a ceasefire in Lebanon has not yet been fully achieved, and the United States is obliged to compel Israel to fulfil this commitment. The Iranian delegation is closely monitoring this issue through Pakistani mediation, as well as directly in the negotiating room.
The Iranian delegation, given its lack of trust in the opposing side and taking into account the experience of US breaches of commitments in previous negotiations, is participating in this round of talks under Pakistani mediation,” the statement said.
