EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said Israel’s strikes in Lebanon cause excessive damage and raise questions about their compliance with the right to self-defence.

Writing on X, Kallas highlighted that the scale of the attacks, which have claimed hundreds of lives, challenges their justification as self-defence. She emphasised, however, that Hezbollah previously drew Lebanon into the conflict.

The diplomat also noted that Israel’s actions increase pressure on the US-Iran ceasefire framework, which she believes should also apply to Lebanon.

“Hezbollah must disarm. The EU supports Lebanon’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah,” Kallas wrote.
