Hungary’s opposition Tisza Party, led by Péter Magyar, continues to outperform Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s ruling Fidesz party in public opinion polls, maintaining a 10-point lead.
A survey conducted by Zavecz Research between January 19 and 24 shows Tisza securing 49% voter support, while Fidesz stands at 39%. In November, the figures were 47% and 38%, respectively, Caliber.Az reports, citing Hungarian media.
The poll indicates that Tisza enjoys its strongest support among voters under the age of 39, with 41% backing the party. Fidesz, by contrast, leads among voters aged 59 and older, receiving 38% support. The ruling party also performs better among residents of rural areas and small towns, as well as among voters with primary education.
At the same time, the opposition holds a clear lead in cities and among voters with higher education. In Budapest, Tisza enjoys nearly a twofold advantage, polling 44% compared to 21% for Fidesz.
An earlier January poll also showed Tisza in the lead with 40% support, while 33% of respondents said they were ready to vote for Orbán’s party.
Parliamentary elections in Hungary are scheduled for April 12.
