Mountain jews have always supported and will continue to support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and represent its interests in Israel, says Nehemia Shirin Michaeli, head of the Azerbaijani Mountain Jewish community.

Speaking at a meeting in the Israeli city of Acre between a group of Azerbaijani journalists and representatives of the Mountain Jewish community from Azerbaijan, Michaeli expressed hope for further strengthening friendship between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

Community representatives spoke about their role in strengthening friendship between the two peoples, as well as relations between the two countries as a whole.

“Here in Israel, we are not simply friends of Azerbaijan, but brothers. When Azerbaijan defeated Armenia and restored its territorial integrity, people took to the streets of Israel to celebrate the event just as they did in Azerbaijan,” he noted.

During the meeting, Acre Mayor Ohad Segev presented Rantik Agarunov, the brother of Azerbaijani National Hero Albert Agarunov, with a certificate recognising and commemorating his brother’s memory.
