Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa met members of the Syrian community in the United States on September 22 at the start of his visit to New York to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, the Syrian presidency said.
Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh and several other officials attended the meeting, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Sharaa briefed participants on the latest developments in Syria, recent achievements and the country’s reconstruction and recovery efforts. He also heard comments and proposals from members of the Syrian community on various issues.
The Syrian president highlighted the role of Syrians in the United States in strengthening relations between Damascus and Washington. He also stressed the importance of drawing on the expertise and skills of Syrians living abroad and their contribution to Syria’s reconstruction.
Sharaa began his visit to New York on Monday to participate in the UN General Assembly.
It marks his second consecutive appearance at the UN General Assembly. In September 2025, he attended the 80th session, becoming the first Syrian president to participate in the gathering since 1967.
