IRGC: Most US bases around Iran disabled by Iranian attacks

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on September 21 that most U.S. military bases surrounding Iran had been knocked out of action following Iranian missile and drone attacks, while warning that any renewed assault would trigger a broader response.

IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohabbi said Iranian forces had targeted U.S. military installations across the region, Iran International reports. 

“All these bases came under attack from Iran’s missiles and drones, and most were knocked out of action,” Mohabbi said.

He claimed that Washington had subsequently been forced to move personnel and military equipment to facilities farther from Iran, including Muwaffaq Salti Air Base near Azraq in Jordan. Mohabbi said, however, that those locations remained within the reach of Iranian forces.

The IRGC spokesman described the conflict as a “historic and humiliating defeat” for the United States and Israel, while accusing Washington of being unwilling to acknowledge the outcome.

Mohabbi warned that any renewed attack against Iran would lead Tehran to alter both the geographical scope of the conflict and the weapons used in response.

“We will introduce new weapons with new capabilities into the battle, and the world will be astonished,” he said.

He added that Iran had identified new targets that had not previously been attacked, without providing details about their locations or nature.

Mohabbi also rejected reports or suggestions that the IRGC had established either formal or informal contacts with the United States.

He said the military force would not participate in diplomatic negotiations, emphasising its role as part of Iran’s defence establishment.

“The IRGC is the defensive and military arm of Iran and Islam,” he said. “It does not enter the diplomatic arena.”
