Talks between US and Chinese representatives in New York are aimed at laying the groundwork for a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told TASS.
Trump and Xi are scheduled to meet in Washington on September 24.
“We are laying the groundwork so that when President Xi Jinping arrives in Washington on Thursday [September 24], President Trump and President Xi Jinping can hold a successful summit,” Greer said.
He said the Trade Council established by the two countries would determine categories of goods eligible for mutually favourable trading terms.
According to Greer, the US expects to import consumer goods and low-tech products from China, while offering energy resources, agricultural products and medical equipment in return.
