The mayor of Romania’s Baia Mare, Ioan Doru Dăncuș, and Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in Khankandi city, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, Elchin Yusubov, have signed a protocol of intent on establishing a sister-city relationship between Baia Mare and Khankandi.
Signed during Baia Mare City Day, the protocol envisages expanding cooperation in trade and investment, establishing direct business ties, implementing joint projects, and developing cooperation in culture, education, and tourism, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
Yusubov said it was symbolic that Khankandi’s twinning process in Europe began with Baia Mare, highlighting the close and strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Romania. He said the initiative would create new opportunities for Khankandi’s cooperation with European cities as the city enters a new phase of reconstruction and development.
Romanian officials also stressed the importance of strengthening ties between Maramureș and Azerbaijan through regional and institutional cooperation.
Azerbaijani Ambassador to Romania Gudsi Osmanov described Baia Mare’s initiative as the beginning of concrete projects and sustainable relations between Maramureș and Azerbaijan.
