BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 16. Tajikistan and
the Republic of Korea discussed expanding investment cooperation,
including in mineral resource processing, during high-level talks
in Seoul.
According to the press service of the President of Tajikistan,
the issues were discussed during a meeting between President of
Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of the Republic of Korea
Lee Jae Myung on September 16.
"The sides welcomed the first Tajik-Korean Critical Minerals
Forum held in Seoul in August this year and the presentation of
Tajikistan’s investment opportunities in the field of mineral
resource processing," the statement said.
The sides emphasized the importance of active participation by
Korean companies in attracting foreign direct investment and modern
technologies to Tajikistan.
In this regard, the sides supported an initiative to open a
representative office of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion
Agency (KOTRA) in Tajikistan.
Particular attention was also paid to the activities of the
Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation and the use of
the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
The sides welcomed the first Tajik-Korean Critical Minerals
Forum held in Seoul in August and the presentation of Tajikistan’s
investment opportunities in mineral resource processing.
The participation of Korean investors and relevant institutions
in the implementation of Tajikistan’s strategic projects was also
discussed separately.
Potential areas of cooperation were also identified as industry,
energy, transport and logistics, digitalization, artificial
intelligence, agriculture and tourism.
The sides also reviewed the implementation of the third phase of
the "Development of Rural Areas in Tajikistan" project, which has
been carried out in cooperation with South Korea since 2021.
In addition, the talks covered climate and environmental issues,
including glacier melting, the implementation of environmental
programs and biodiversity conservation.
