A multi-storey residential building housing nearly 70 displaced Palestinians collapsed west of Gaza City, killing at least 10 people and leaving dozens more unaccounted for beneath the rubble.

The building had previously been damaged by Israeli shelling, AlJazeera reports.

Palestinian Civil Defence teams are continuing search and rescue operations as they look for people believed to be trapped under the collapsed structure.

A video obtained by Al Jazeera showed rescuers retrieving the body of a child killed in the collapse on September 15.

Another video showed residents clearing rubble in an effort to reach a young girl trapped beneath the debris. The girl could be heard crying as people worked to free her.

Several other children are also believed to remain buried beneath the rubble as rescue efforts continue.
