Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan will travel to Germany on September 18 to receive the Hessian Peace Prize, the parliament of the German state of Hesse said.
The award will be presented to Pashinyan during a formal ceremony at the state parliament in Wiesbaden.
According to the Hessian Landtag, the prize is being awarded in recognition of Pashinyan’s “efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus” and his “rapprochement with the European Union”. The award carries a monetary prize of €25,000.
The Hessian Peace Prize has been awarded annually since 1994 and recognises individuals for outstanding contributions to international understanding and peaceful solutions to conflicts. It was established by the Albert Osswald Foundation, named after the former Hesse premier Albert Osswald, and the award committee is advised by the Leibniz Institute for Peace and Conflict Research.
