European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has condemned Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and expressed solidarity with the European Union’s partners in the Gulf, she wrote.

“We stand in solidarity with our Gulf partners in the face of relentless attacks by Iran’s proxies,” von der Leyen on X.

She added that the European Union would continue working with its partners to ensure safe and free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and to help maintain stability in the Middle East.

“We all have a stake in this,” the European Commission president added.

Earlier reports said the Houthis had taken control of Yemen’s entire western coast, expanding their presence near the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
