Five people were killed, and six others injured in a drone attack on the town of Chekhov in Russia's Moscow region, Governor Andrei Vorobyov has said.
In a post on Telegram, he noted that Russian air defences intercepted drones targeting the Moscow region on Monday morning, with the most significant damage reported in the Chekhov municipal district, Caliber.Az reports.
"This morning, air defence forces repelled a drone attack on the Moscow region. The main consequences were recorded in the Chekhov municipal district. Several fires broke out after a UAV struck an industrial zone in Novoselki. The largest blaze, at a warehouse, has already been extinguished. An electrical substation and an administrative building were also damaged. Firefighters and emergency services remain at the scene," Vorobyov stressed.
According to him, drone debris damaged a private house and a car in the village of Solnyshkovo.
The fire there has been extinguished, and no casualties have been reported.
Vorobyov further stated that the drone attack was still ongoing, with UAVs detected over the Volokolamsk, Klin, Chekhov and Serebryanye Prudy districts of the Moscow region.
Earlier, the independent outlet ASTRA reported that warehouse facilities belonging to Wildberries may have been among the targets of the drone strike in Chekhov.
