Three people were killed and 21 others were injured in a bomb explosion near a restaurant on Moscow's Kudrinskaya Square on Saturday, TASS reports.


Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee said the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device.


According to the committee, those killed included a security guard who attempted to stop a woman suspected of trying to bring the explosive device into the restaurant, the woman herself, and one of the restaurant's patrons.


Police officers and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, while authorities opened an investigation into the incident.
